The Latest COVID-19 Coverage
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health announced a vaccine mandate for employees, citing accelerating cases nationwide and in New Hampshire, fueled by the delta variant, as a driving force in the requirement. The announcement was made on August 3, 2021 with the rule going into effect on September 30, 2021, and more New Hampshire hospitals are likely to follow suit.
A recent poll conducted by The COVID States Project shows that the majority of Americans, 62%, support a vaccine mandate, however, a sharp partisan divide in support still remains. The poll surveyed over 20,000 people from all 50 states and the District of Columbia for nearly a month. The survey reveals an array of data ranging from views on settings for vaccine requirements and a breakdown of results by state.
More states and employers are issuing vaccine mandates for nursing home workers as the latest Delta variant COVID-19 surge grows. Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey are some of the states that announced vaccine mandates for workers in health settings including long–term care facilities and nursing homes.
California’s public health officer, Dr. Tomás Aragón, issued a new order for employees of hospitals, nursing homes, doctors’ offices, and other medical facilities to receive the first dose of the vaccination by September 30, 2021. The state also ordered that indoor visitors to hospitals, skilled nursing homes, and facilities for the developmentally disabled to be fully vaccinated or provide a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours.
