What is National Nurses Week?

Every year, the American Nurses Association (ANA) hosts National Nurses Week to acknowledge the immense contributions nurses bring to healthcare, families, society, and even the economy. Without you, our world wouldn’t be the same today or throughout history.

It’s not just another week on the calendar — it’s celebrating nursing and your dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to healing. Therefore, CareerStaff is thrilled to join in on the celebration of the job you do as a nurse.

When is National Nurses Week 2024?

Mark your calendars! National Nurses Week 2024 runs from May 6th to May 12th, with a theme of “Nurses Make the Difference.” Of course, celebrating nursing deserves more than one week, which is why May is also National Nurses Month!

When I decide to retire, I’ll know I made a difference. It’s not who you leave behind, but what you left in your place.

– Jeanne Gibson, LPN

As a nurse, thank you for your dedication and your invaluable contributions to healthcare. Whether you comfort a patient in distress, advocate for equitable healthcare policies, or champion wellness initiatives, your impact is immeasurable.

Celebrating Nursing: How to Celebrate You During National Nurses Week

By celebrating nursing, we’re celebrating you as a professional and individual. As a result, National Nurses Week 2024 is all about taking care of YOU, acknowledging nursing wins, and growing both personally and professionally.

From self-care to community engagement, here’s how to make the most of this year’s National Nurses Week:

Practice Self-Care this Nurses Week

You’ve dedicated your nursing career to taking care of others. Therefore, do the same for you this week. For example, pausing for daily mindfulness and meditation is one of the ultimate hacks for nursing self-care. In addition:

  • Treat yourself to some Nurses Week freebies! Discover exclusive nursing discounts and deals on apparel, travel, food, and more from your favorite brands this month.
  • Get those endorphins flowing with a daily dose of movement, whether it’s an outdoor walk, yoga session, or dance party in your living room. Find an activity you enjoy.
  • Practice a bedtime routine to help yourself wind down and get some quality rest this week. Try stretching, turning off screens, or listening to soft music before going to sleep.
  • Not sure where to start with self-care? Take a self-care assessment through the American Nurses Foundation Stress & Burnout Prevention Program.

Recognize Your Accomplishments this Nurses Week

Celebrating nursing wins can help you remember why you started your career — and why you continue to choose to make a difference:

  • Create a “success jar” and make a habit of writing down one win from each shift, big or small. You’ll be amazed at everything you accomplish and the difference you make. By next year’s Nurses Week, you’ll have a full jar to read and reflect on!
  • Set aside some time for reflection and journaling. Acknowledge your career highs or illustrate how you’ve made a difference with a nurse vision board.
  • Don’t be shy — share your wins on social media using #NursesWeek and #NursesMakeTheDifference! Let’s spread some positivity, shall we? Challenge your nursing friends to do the same.
  • Reach out to nursing mentors for feedback and guidance on your achievements and career goals.

Pursue Nursing Professional Development

Remember: As a nurse, you can do anything you put your mind to, and professional development is the key. Therefore, make a difference by dreaming big and chasing your career goals.

“The more education you have, the more opportunities you will have. The sky is the limit with nursing.”

– Heather Kemp, LPN
