At CareerStaff Unlimited, we take pride in the quality of the nurses and clinicians we recruit to help America’s healthcare facilities meet their patient care goals. And as staffing specialists, we also understand the importance of the leaders, recruiters and other professionals working behind the scenes to help us maintain the highest levels of quality possible during this challenging time for healthcare delivery.
As part of our Employee Spotlight series, this month we’re shining a spotlight on CareerStaff East Vice President Dan Edwards, who leads up our East Coast-based operations from his base in Massachusetts. A seasoned leader with extensive experience recruiting, training and developing teams, Dan also offers expertise in equally important aspects of healthcare administration like quality monitoring and compliance assurance.
A self-motivated team player who thrives in challenging, fast-paced environments, Dan grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, and attended the University of Connecticut, where he majored in Communications. But his career would quickly move beyond that specialty to build expertise in such leadership roles as marketing, business development and strategy, and fiscal management.
In 2016, he joined the CareerStaff team as regional director for the Northeast, before moving into his current role as East Vice President in October, 2019. Dan recently sat down with us to recall his career path and a few other topics, including the continuous inspiration that comes from working with clinicians.
‘Inspired by the People we Work With’
“I started my career working as a recruiter for a national engineering staffing firm,” he recalled. After taking a brief hiatus to open his open business, he missed the recruiting profession and started looking to get back in. He was soon hired as a recruiter in pediatric home care, where he worked for six years in various management and directorship roles until joining CareerStaff.
During this time in home care, Dan worked in prominent roles with BAYADA and Maxim Healthcare, two of the nation’s largest home health organizations. This experience has given him an added layer of expertise that fits well into CareerStaff’s comprehensive model of healthcare staffing.
On a personal level, Dan loves boating, fishing, and golf. A proud father, he puts his family first and foremost, telling us that his greatest achievement is his “two awesome kids.”
When asked about working at CareerStaff, Dan praised the many dedicated individuals who work so hard to keep patient care strong, whether they work on the clinical or the administrative side of the equation.
“I think it was more evident than ever during the pandemic what the collective efforts of this organization can accomplish and the impact we made for our clients.”
“I have a lot of great memories meeting great people across the organization at company events and national shows,” he said. “We work in a people business and it’s the people who make up this company that keep me engaged and motivated.”
As the world has seen, that motivation that comes from working with nurses and clinicians — and seeing firsthand their selflessness and dedication to helping others — has been all the more prominent during the challenging months of 2020.
“I’m inspired by the people we work with and the clinicians who take so much pride in their work,” he said. “I think it was more evident than ever during the pandemic what the collective efforts of this organization can accomplish and the impact we made for our clients.”
